Lots of Yoga's 5 Things Friday - (2015 Week 37)

Staying safe while doing yoga, staying calm when our patience is tested and learning life lessons from yoga babies. This is 5 Things Friday.

The weather's taken a turn for the worse this week but that hasn't altered our mood! We're still oohing and aahing over babies and baby mamas, random acts of kindness and the way our wonderful bodies move when we do yoga.

1. Instagram of the week: @jana_roemer

We liked this photograph so much that we had to feature it in our article, 23 things you can learn from babies through yoga. Jana is a yoga teacher, yoga mama and co-founder of Mindful Mamas, advocates of raising children naturally. You're cool, Jana. We like you!

2. Kindness of the Week: MacDonald's employee's kindness

A small act of kindness such as helping someone eat, goes a long way. Destiny Carreno, a customer at MacDonald's captured this picture which has now not-surprisingly gone viral and tells the story. "Seeing this today brought tears to my eyes! Compassion has NOT gone out of style," says Destiny. Kenny, the MacDonald's employee didn't turn a blind eye when an elderly gentleman asked him for help with his meal.

"The cashier came out from the kitchen, sat down, and began cutting the man's meal and helped him eat. At that point, the tears started to gather in my eyes. My heart was so appreciative for what he did. I couldn't contain my emotions in the crowded restaurant. This employee, who put everything on hold for this man, went above and beyond his responsibilties to help this handicapped customer out. That was the kindest and most humble thing I had ever seen." - Destiny Carreno

It might not even take us a minute of our time or a penny out of our pockets, but it can stay a lifetime in someone's heart.

3. Article of the week: How to avoid the most common yoga injuries

Drunkard.pose.kat.de.naoum.yoga.poses.hilaria.baldwin Tip: Don't drink before doing yoga...

A very informative piece on how to avoid the cost common yoga injuries such as: -

  • Shoulder girdle/rotator cuff injury
  • lower back strains
  • damaged knee joints
  • wrist injury
  • pelvis and gluteal inflammation; and
  • neck injury.

Great for those who like more aggressive forms of yoga like Bikram, Iyengar and Ashtanga. Be safe out there, yogis!

4. Video of the week: X-ray yoga

How fun is this? In this beautifully made x-ray video of a body doing yoga, we get a behind the scenes, an in-depth look if you will, at how our skeletal system works when we are doing our beloved sun salutations.

5. Quote of the week: Focus on your own karma

karma quote

We'll always come across people who don't act right in some way or another, whether it's how they treat us or even how they choose to conduct themselves. The only thing we have to worry about is how we react. The hard part is remembering to let karma do the hard work, so grab some popcorn, sit back and enjoy the show.

Lots of love
